Kaliii is resolute about shaping her own destiny. This year, the Georgia native has been making significant strides and is already determined to forge a path for more women in rap, especially those who look like her, in an industry predominantly led by men.
In her conversation with MTV, Kaliii emphasizes, “I just want to be like, Kaliii was so cool and she just followed her dream. She wasn’t trying to compete. You know, I’m trying to set trends and just be everybody’s homegirl.” She continues, “followed her dreams and she paved the way for girls who look like her. And now everybody wanna do it. You know I’m trying to set trends.”
Considering the year Kaliii has been having, we think she has a good shot at building that legacy. In March 2023, she released her viral anthem “Area Codes” to critical acclaim. The track, which was co-produced by Tate Kobang and YG! Beats, and interpolates Ludacris’ 2001 song of the same name, quickly gained traction due to its liberating and authoritative lyrics that played into the debates about modern dating.
Since then, Kaliii has been asserting her presence in the music scene. The track’s success propelled the rapper to secure an entry on the Billboard charts, opening doors to features in magazines, live performances, and fresh opportunities.
